Mesa del Mar is a very small town (about 350 inhabitants). It has just a
dozen apartment buildings built mostly for holiday use.
During the 70s and 80s, this was a private beach resort visited by many
people. Currently, the majority of properties belonging to local people are
only used during summer or sometimes during the rest of the year, so most of
the time, the town is very quiet and peaceful.
Its main attraction is a volcanic, black sand beach, which is 2 minutes
walk from the apartment. The beach of La
Arena has the blue flag, a symbol of quality, and has some facilities like:
a walking path, toilets, showers ... At the end of the way, you can continue walking
along the coast for about 40 minutes until you reach a second beach, Playa El Arenal. This second beach is
even lonelier and you can enjoy some unique landscapes and tranquility.
The busiest part of the town has a wide free parking place. Nearby,
there are two swimming-pools: one of the pools is natural and it fills and
empties with the tides so that the water is always clean. The other pool is
artificial and is empty during winter time. Nearby the pools, there is another
walking path that leads to a small town called El Pris. The tour is only about 15 minutes walk and you get to a town that has a small old style pier, one
of the very fewest that still exist on the island. In this town there is the
opportunity to buy fresh fish or eat it in one of the restaurants.
Finally, we will detail some of the facilities you can find at the town:
* Supermarket: is a small
well-stocked shop, where you can buy all the staples, newspapers, beach items
...
Winter hours: 8.30 am to 13.30 and from 15.30 to 19.30h (closed Mondays
and holidays from December 15 until January 15 approx.)
Summer hours: Open daily from 8:30 am until 9:30 p.m.
* Restaurant "La Gaviota": it is a family
restaurant where you can try a variety of dishes, from fresh fish dishes,
tapas, to more exotic dishes such as Venezuelan
arepas.
Winter hours: from 12.30h 11:30 p.m. (Closed Tuesdays and during her
winter vacation to specify)
Summer hours: Open daily from 10.30 until 24.00.
* Diving club "Aquarium sub" is a small club
where you can take diving lessons.
Hours: it adapts to the needs of users.
* Restaurant "El Peje Verde" is also a small
family restaurant with a superb location next to the sea, where you can enjoy
various snacks while enjoying the sound of the sea.
Winter hours: from 12.30h 16.30h 14.30h to 9:00 p.m.
Summer hours: Open daily from 10.30 until 24.00.
